This design was inspired by an old piece of Tuscarora beadwork that a friend had gifted to me. Starting in the 1800’s, Tuscarora beadworkers sold small souvenirs to tourists visiting the Falls. Intricately beaded pincushions, picture frames, coin purses, and miniature horseshoes were popular mementos that helped Tuscarora families earn a living. Today, our community carries on the tradition with many talented beadwork artisans. We still use the old patterns that have been passed down through the generations.
